6063 Aluminium Sheet Material Composition

6063 aluminum plate belongs to A1-Mg-Si series in the aluminum alloy series. The base of 6063 aluminium sheet material is Al. The main elements are Mg and Si. When Mg and Si are added to liquid aluminum, Mg and Si will dissolved in aluminum, when cooled to a solid state, Mg and Si still remain in the aluminum matrix, will not precipitate, and form an intermetallic compound Mg2Si. At the same time, because of the impurity elements Fe, Mn, etc. in the 6063 aluminium sheet material, it will also form AlFeSi, when more Mg is added than Si, Mg2Al3 may be formed. The density of 6063 aluminium sheet material is 2.69 g / cm3, and the theoretical density of aluminum at room temperature is 2698.72 / m3. Of course, the density of solid aluminum and molten aluminum varies with different purity, but the changes are not obvious.

Respective Roles of 6063 Aluminium Sheet Material Elements

The element content (%) of 6063 aluminium sheet material is expressed in Cu: 0.1, Si: 0.2-0.6, Fe: 0.4, Mn: 0.1, Mg: 0.45-0.9, Zn: 0.1, Cr: 0.1, Ti: 0.1.
The Role of Alloy 6063 Mg and Si
The Si in the 6063 aluminium sheet material first generates AlFeSi, AlFe (Mn) Si, the remaining Mg2Si, and free Si when excess. However, if Si is insufficient and Mg is excess, Mg2Al3 is generated. The weight ratio of Mg to Si in Mg2Si in 6063 aluminium sheet material is Mg: Si = (2 × 24.3) /28.1=1.73, where 24.3 is the atomic weight of Mg 28.1 is the atomic weight of Si. Similarly, the weight ratio of (Fe + Mn) and Si in AlFe (Mn) Si is (Fe + Mn): Si = 55.8 + 55 / 28.1 = 3.94≈4. Th
erefore, the actual amount of Si of Mg2Si in 6063 aluminum plate should be the Si总-0.25 (Fe + Mn), which is why the Fe and Mn content in 6063 aluminium sheet material should be controlled when batching.
The Role of 6063 Aluminium Alloy Si
The Mg2Si generated in 6063 aluminium sheet material can play a strengthening role, and the excess Si in alloy 6063 can be dissolved in the matrix (the solubility of Si in aluminum can reach 1.65% at 550). Fine Mg2Si particles precipitated at room temperature can strengthen, but if the extrusion performance of 6063 aluminum properties is decreased, the excess Si in 6063 aluminium sheet material should be controlled no more than 0.2%. However, when Si is insufficient, the excess Mg generates Mg2Al3, which reduces the processing performance of 6063 aluminum properties.
Other Elements in 6063 Aluminium Sheet Material
Very little Cu in 6063 aluminium sheet material is dissolved in the matrix, which makes the precipitates smaller during aging and prevents adverse effects caused by waiting before aging. However, a large amount of Cu in 6063 aluminium sheet material will form CuAl2 phase, and a large amount of Cu will become Al-Cu-Mg-Si alloy (duralumin). Cr in 6063 aluminium alloy is beneficial to improve tensile strength and formability of 6063 aluminum properties,and it can refine the grain. For Fe in 6063 aluminium sheet material, not more than 0.15%, otherwise the surface will be gray after oxidation.

When the content of Mg2Si in 6063 aluminium sheet material is 0.7%, the tensile strength is > 180Mpa. It belongs to extrudable 6063 aluminum plate. When the content of Mg2Si is 0.8%, the tensile strength is > 230Mpa, which is the normal 6063 aluminum plate. When the content of Mg2Si is 0.9%, the tensile strength > 250Mpa is high strength 6063 aluminum plate.
