Marine Grade 5083 H116 Aluminum Plate is the material of choice for ship deck manufacturing; it belongs to the 5XXX series (Al-Mg system) of high-magnesium, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys. Compared to traditional steel, the use of 5083 aluminum plate reduces hull structural weight by 15%–20%, significantly enhancing load-carrying capacity and fuel economy while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance and weldability.

Specifications of Marine Grade 5083 H116 Aluminum Plate

Thickness: 3–50 mm (4–20 mm commonly used for decks)

Width: 1000–2650 mm (extra-wide plates reduce splicing welds)

Length: 2000–16000 mm (custom cutting available)

Extra-wide plates 2650mm significantly reduce the number of splicing welds, enhancing structural integrity and sealing performance while lowering the risk of welding deformation.

Why is 5083 aluminum plate used for decks?

Ship decks are constantly exposed to seawater, salt spray, and high humidity, while also enduring the impact of waves, heavy cargo loads, and extreme weather conditions. 5083 aluminum alloy is the preferred material for decks due to the following characteristics:

Superior Seawater Corrosion Resistance: Magnesium content strengthens the dense surface oxide film; the corrosion rate is approximately 80% lower than that of steel, resulting in a roughly 40% reduction in maintenance costs.

High Structural Strength: With a tensile strength of 305–350 MPa and a yield strength of ≥215 MPa, it reliably supports long-term deck loads.

Significant Lightweight Advantage: Its density is only about 2.65 g/cm³—one-third that of steel—reducing weight by over 20% and directly enhancing load-bearing capacity and fuel efficiency.

Excellent Weldability: It maintains stable strength after welding and is resistant to cracking, making it ideal for large welded deck structures.

Outstanding Low-Temperature Toughness: It does not become brittle or undergo a ductile-to-brittle transition in low-temperature environments, such as during polar voyages.
